Tokyo-based Mitsui & Co. Ltd. recently announced that it has acquired the majority ownership interest in Road Machinery Co., a Komatsu distributor of construction, mining and utility equipment, with corporate headquarters in Phoenix and eight other branch offices in four southwest states and north Mexico. Komatsu America Co., the former owner, will maintain a minority interest in the newly formed company, Road Machinery LLC.

“Mitsui & Co. has invested in Komatsu distributorships in both South America and Australia,” said Masao Tsukuda, who is joining Road Machinery as chairman. “We are excited about the opportunity to broaden our relationship with Komatsu to include the United States.” Tsukuda was recently president of Mitsui Maquinarias S.A, the Komatsu distributorship in Peru.

“Mitsui and Komatsu have already shown that the partnership between these two global companies forms synergies that are very productive,” said Chuck Paugh, president of Road Machinery. “This year marks Road Machinery’s 50th anniversary, an appropriate time for a new beginning.”

Terms of the acquisition were not announced. Representatives from both Mitsui and Komatsu will comprise the board of directors.

Road Machinery LLC is No. 94 on the new RER 100.
