Sunbelt Rentals has acquired Theros Equipment Rentals, a leading independent rental company based in northern Virginia. Founded in 1996, Theros has served Northern Virginia and the greater Washington, D.C., from locations in Fredericksburg, Sterling, New Baltimore and Springfield, Va.
The acquired branches complement Sunbelt’s existing business in these market areas, Sunbelt said.

Former owner Joel Theros, who grew up in the rental industry as his father owned a rental company as well, will remain with Sunbelt in the position of regional operations manager to help guide the development of business in the Northeast. “Theros Equipment has always been devoted to serving our customers with a large product offering, convenient locations and an experienced, dedicated staff of rental professionals,” said Theros. “I felt Sunbelt was the best fit to elevate that service commitment to a new level, with access to the broadest fleet mix in the rental industry and to provide expanded career opportunities for my team.”
The acquisition of Theros Equipment Rentals is the second major acquisition of an RER 100 company this week, with BlueLine Rentals having acquired Trico Lift earlier this week. Theros is No. 94 on the RER 100.
