Genie protective solutions continue to evolve to meet the demands of today’s aerial jobsites.
Available globally in Q2, the Genie Lift Guard Platform Mesh family of accessories is designed to prevent dropped objects falling from aerial worksites. With three options to choose from — half-height aluminum, full-height aluminum and removable woven screen, these contemporary mesh accessories are engineered to help operators keep jobsite materials and tools from falling out of boom platforms working at height.
“Loose tools, equipment and jobsite materials always present a risk of dropped objects when working at height,” says Marie Engstrom, Genie product manager, Terex AWP. “Items dropped from mobile elevated work platforms, or MEWPs, can result in damaged or lost equipment, reduced productivity and increased risk of jobsite accidents, leading to injury or more serious consequences. Our goal with the Genie Lift Guard Platform Mesh family of accessories is to offer our customers effective methods to protect operators, bystanders and property, without impacting productivity.”
To further enhance safe work practices at height, all Genie Lift Guard Platform Mesh accessories are compatible with other Genie protective and safety accessories, including the Genie Fall Arrest Bar, the Genie Lift Guard Contact Alarm and the Genie Operator Protective Structure.
Offered in two versions to best meet customers’ jobsite needs, the Genie Lift Guard Platform Mesh – Half and Full aluminum accessories are available on Genie 6-foot or 8-foot articulated and telescopic boom platforms equipped with a swing gate. The Genie Lift Guard Platform Mesh – Half is designed to cover the lower half of the boom platform area, from the floor to mid-rail. The Genie Lift Guard Platform Mesh – Full covers all four sides of the platform, from the floor to the top rail, without obstructing the lanyard attachment points on the rail.
The Genie Lift Guard Platform Mesh – Half and Full aluminum accessories will be available installed from the factory or as an aftermarket kit, which can easily be retrofitted onto existing boom platforms with swing gate in less than 30 minutes with two people. Built to withstand rigorous jobsite conditions, these accessories are ANSI, CSA and CE qualified and stability tested for use globally on Genie Z® and S® boom platforms.
An alternative to the aluminum options, the new Genie Lift Guard Platform Mesh – Screen accessory is designed to encapsulate the boom platform, fully covering the bottom, sides, door and control panel. This accessory is specifically designed so nothing dropped inside the platform can fall out.
It fastens around the platform mid-rails using a hook-and-loop and straps around guardrail with 2-inch burst-resistant buckles. Operators can quickly and easily enter and exit the boom platform through the entryway. The Genie Lift Guard Platform Mesh – Screen can be folded to half configuration at height allowing worker to gain access through the mid-rail and top rail at any time while at height. The change in configuration can be done from inside the platform.
When configured to full height, the Genie Genie Lift Guard Platform Mesh – Screen is built to sustain 15 mph (24.14 kph) winds; when folded down below the mid-rail, it is built to sustain 28 mph (45 kph) winds. Designed to be durable and lightweight, the Genie Lift Guard Platform Mesh – Screen accessory weighs less than 20 pounds and is constructed from a flame-retardant material. It has passed by Cal. Fire Marshal-Title 19 & NFPA 701 testing; it also has been tested to ASTM D-2135 with a low temperature rating of -40º F (40 º C) and a UV Resistance of 1,200 hours ASTM G-53.
The Genie Lift Guard Platform Mesh – Screen accessory option is available as an aftermarket kit. It can be installed by one person without tools on Genie S-boom and ZX-135/70 platforms in less than 10 minutes or by two people in less than five minutes. It only needs to be installed once and can remain in place for up to two years of use.
