Briggs & Stratton

Single-cylinder engines ranging from 5.5 to 10 hp offer a high-mounted canister-style air cleaner with increased filter area. An all-metal fuel tank reduces emissions, saves fuel and is mounted directly to the engine block. The air filter is water-repellant and protected by a full metal cage, and features a triple-seal design to decrease dirt, dust and debris intake. A commercial-style carburetor includes additional fuel passages to facilitate starting and smooth operation at a wide range of speeds and loads. Deep ribs on the cylinder head are designed to add strength and increase cooling; precision mating surfaces between the cylinder head and cylinder maximize sealing and torque.

Kohler

Kohler offers two Tier 4 Final emission-compliant, heavy-duty diesel engines for the industrial, construction and agriculture markets. The Kohler 1.9-liter KDI1903TCR and the 2.5-liter KDI2504TCR engines are designed to offer optimized fuel consumption and limited emissions without a diesel particulate filter, using direct-injection system, cooled-exhaust gas recirculation and diesel-oxygenated catalyst. The high-pressure common rail system utilizes pressures at 2,000 bar (29,000 psi), resulting in better atomization of fuel, improved fuel consumption and a reduction in emission particulates.

Honda

The Honda V-Twin Engine Series features six models, the GX630, GX550, GX690 (pictured), GXV630, GXV660 and GXV690, available in both horizontal and vertical shaft configurations. Potential applications include: utility vehicles, zero-turn radius mowers, garden tractors, trenchers, stump grinders, chippers/shredders, concrete saws, vibratory rollers, ride-on cement trowels, commercial generators and pressure washers. Features include the hemispherical combustion chamber design, higher compression ratio, increased displacement, and steel connecting rods. An integrated cylinder and head eliminates the need for a head gasket, which results in increased cooling and higher levels of reliability.

Subaru

The EX Series engines from Subaru utilize high-performance chain-driven overhead cam technology in the industrial air-cooled market, featuring four new models with power ranges from 4.5 to 9 hp, covered by Subaru's five-year limited warranty. The OHC technology allows the intake and exhaust valves to be positioned for optimum engine performance, offering lower resistance for the air/fuel mixture flow. With a pent-roof-type combustion changer, the EX engines utilize a high compression ratio, producing higher power and torque, while limiting exhaust emissions and fuel consumption. To combat excessive heat, special heat dissipation fins have been built into the mounting base, cylinder and the inner and outer crankcase surfaces.

John Deere Power Systems

Three engines in the John Deere Power Systems lineup of off-highway diesel engines in the 75 to 174 hp range have been certified as compliant with Interim Tier 4 EPA standards as well as European Union Stage III B and California Air Resources Board regulations. The PowerTech PWX 4.5L (pictured) and PVX 4.5L engines and the Power Tech PVX 6.8 join the previously certified engines above 174 hp. JDPS engines met the regulations with cooled-exhaust gas recirculation for Nox control, adding an exhaust filter for reducing particulate matter. The engines feature full-authority electronic controls, a 4-valve cylinder head, a high-pressure fuel system, wastegate or variable-geometry turbocharging and an air-to-air aftercooling system.

Perkins

Perkins' new 400F, the latest addition to the 400 Series range, meets Tier 4 Final/Stage IIIB regulations. The engine runs up to 61 hp and offers 3- and 4-cylinder engines. Perkins' testing facility has a tilt cell that allows them to check performance while simulating the typical and extreme conditions an engine would experience in customer applications. The tilt cell has a hydraulically actuated table that can rotate a fully instrumental engine through 180 degrees on the crankshaft axis and tilt up or down 45 degrees while running.

Volvo Construction Equipment

Volvo Construction Equipment has adopted a combination of “in-cylinder” and “external” solutions to meet Stage IIIB and Tier 4 interim regulations for its new generation of V-Act engine systems that feature ultra-high-pressure variable fuel-injection systems, cooled-exhaust gas recirculation, precise control of the turbochargers and an integrated exhaust after-treatment system featuring a particulate filter and thermal regenerator. Volvo's regeneration solution can be carried out while the machine continues working. The electronic control unit controls the entire EGR process.

Cummins

Cummins 4-cylinder QSB3.3 and QSB4.5 engines offer a simplified Tier 4 installation across a broad 75- to 160-hp range. An air-intake-to-exhaust after-treatment system is specifically designed for flexible machine integration. Proven on Cummins 6-cylinder engines, the exhaust gas recirculation system is scaled down for the 4-cylinder QSB configuration and driven by a variable-flow turbocharger. Using a simple variable-turbine mechanism, the turbo is designed to improve boost across a wider engine speed than a wastegate turbo and avoids the complexity of dual turbochargers.

Deutz

The 2.9L4 diesel engine from Deutz meets EPA Tier 4 Final and EU Stage IIIB and IV. Depending on the power requirement, the engine is either naturally aspirated (D2.9L4) or equipped with charge-air cooling (TCD2.9L4). High-pressure common-rail injection and cooled external exhaust gas recirculation produce best performance. The compact in-line 4-cylinder engine with 2.9-liter displacement generates maximum torque of 192 foot pounds. Available with open exhaust aftertreatment system, either mounted on the engine or shipped loose.
